The Reading Room

Welcome to The Reading Room

Our goal is simple – to provide a safe, respectful, and distraction-free environment where students can study consistently and stay accountable. Every member plays an important role in maintaining this environment.

By joining The Reading Room, you agree to follow these Community Guidelines.

Zoom Application

Please join The Reading Room using the Zoom desktop or mobile application only.

Joining through a web browser is not supported.Β

If you haven’t installed the Zoom application yet, please do so before joining a study session.

Camera Policy

The Reading Room follows an accountability-based study model. Members are expected to keep their camera ON while studying. We understand that not everyone is comfortable showing their face. So for those people, Your face does not have to be visible. You may position your camera to show your study setup, notebooks, and hand movements instead of your face/yourself. You may turn your camera OFF during breaks or whenever you step away from your desk. Please turn it back ON when you resume studying.

If your camera remains OFF for an extended period without any prior intimation, The Reading Room Team may request you to turn it back ON by displaying a message on the shared screen. If there is no response even after the reminder, the Team may move you to the Waiting Room until you’re ready to rejoin with your camera on.Β  If required, the team may ask you to adjust your camera so that it meets the accountability guidelines.

Appropriate Camera Conduct

During study sessions, participants have the option to pin another participant’s video for motivation or accountability.

For this reason, we request all members to ensure that their camera view – including their appearance, posture, and study setup remains appropriate for a shared study environment and their own Safety.

This helps us maintain a comfortable, respectful, and distraction-free space for everyone while also ensuring no one ever feels unsafe.

Display Name

To help us maintain a safe and trustworthy community, members must join The Reading Room using their real name or the same name(if it’s your real name) used during registration.

Display names that are misleading, inappropriate, or make it difficult for the Team to identify you may be asked to change before you continue participating.

Audio & Microphone Policy

To maintain a distraction-free study environment, participants’ microphones remain disabled during study sessions.

Microphones may be enabled only during interactive sessions or discussions conducted by The Reading Room Team.

If you need any assistance during a session, you can send a message directly to The Reading Room Team through the Zoom chat.
